This new scholarship in her name is our way of carrying her spark forward: making sure more Black women creatives get to experience Craftcation, connect with their people, and feel the magic Jill shared so freely.

Starting in 2026, the Jill Bates-Moore Scholarship will provide one Black woman creative with full Craftcation registration—200+ workshops, business classes, and community by the beach in Ventura, CA.

When we signed the hotel contract for the first Craftcation, I had no idea if there’d even be a second. In fact, I actually mapped out an escape plan to Canada in case we couldn’t cover the hotel rooms. 😅

But then something magical happened. Yes, the classes were great. Yes, Ventura and the beach were dreamy. But it was the people—this community—that made it unforgettable.

13 years later, I’m so proud to call this group of creative weirdos my community. 💛
