Knitted Cup Sleeve – Stranded Colorwork
Presenter
Workshop Description
Participants will learn the basic technique of stranded colorwork while designing and creating a cup sleeve. The first part of the workshop will be a brief overview of what stranded colorwork is, with some examples of the types of projects that can be done with the technique they will be learning. Then, participants will design their cup sleeve on graph paper. I will have a few pre-made designs and motifs participants can choose from for their cup sleeve or they can come up with their own design from scratch (if they are more advanced knitters).
The bulk of the workshop will be spent teaching the stranded colorwork technique. Participants will learn how to connect their cast on in the round, about color dominance in stranded colorwork designs, how to read stranded colorwork patterns, multiple ways to hold 2 colors of yarn while knitting, and how to manage floats (the yarn on the back of the project that isn’t being knit with). By the end of the workshop, participants will have made significant progress on their cup sleeve or have finished their project (depending on knitting skill level coming into the class).

Level of Difficulty
Knowledge/Equipment Required
- Participants must know how to cast on and do a knit stitch. Knowing how to do a purl stitch is encouraged, but not required. If participants do not know how to purl, their cup sleeve will work with a slight modification to the pattern and so their cup sleeve will not match those pictured exactly. Knowing how to bind off (any method) is also encouraged, but not required for the workshop.
