Second, since a great booth will, no doubt, attract local media attention, well discuss media relations and preparedness including formulating talking points, setting the stage for photographs and engaging the press.

Third, craft shows are not only a way for makers to interact with shoppers, but also for us to have a creative conversation as peers. They will engage attendees in a discussion of critique/self-critique and provide a forum to explore the paradigm of scarcity and the terror of having your ideas bitten in a whole new way that is constructive, self-reflective, healthy and edifying.

you will also have the opportunity to meet and hear from some of our well known local chefs and shop owners. always wondered how a chocolatier makes truffles or how to pair that locally brewed ipa with the perfect dish? learn a little bit about the history of downtown ventura as you sample food at a variety of different stops.

In the digital age, self-publishing has never been easier, but how do you distinguish yourself? Why do it? Have you ever considered publishing your patterns or instructions for your craft as a way to further expand your business?

Many of your customers are also DIYers. Why not expand your customer base and offer patterns, tutorials or even a print or e-book of your designs?

For example, if you sell handmade aprons, bags or toys why not sell patterns so the its cute but I can make that customers will buy your pattern instead of walking away from your booth/shop without a single purchase. What about selling patterns of your retired designs to other hobby crafters, with a limited license to make and sell the finished products from your samples?

In this class, we will discuss ways in which you can self-publish your patterns and designs and how it might help your crafty business. We will also discuss how to publish your own work in a way that distinguishes you as a professional artist/crafter with a good reputation, and how you can use it to further promote your business.

You will learn the nuances and details essential in writing a good pattern, including formatting, layout, photography, color, style, editing, and style sheets.

Lecture will also cover different types of tools and programs that can help you write and publish your pattern.
