Yanked away from playing video games, an 8-year-old Steph Cortes was taught to embroider small handkerchiefs by her grandmother during long San Francisco summer vacations. With a love for colour & knack for doodling, she started designing her own patterns before she was 9. A teacher to local kids at age 11 & a small card company owner by 13, Steph has always had a desire to help spread awesomeness to the masses.

After starting her crafty business, nerd JERK, in 2009, she decided to learn everything she could to succeed at rockin’ it out on Etsy! She soon began offering help & advice to other local creatives and Steph became the Co-Captain for the SF Etsy Team. She was recently invited to be one of 15 Etsy Educators to be certified to teach small businesses all she knows on what it takes to create a memorable brand & connect with customers.

When she’s not teaching, crocheting or playing video games, Steph can be found making her grandmother giggle, cuddling her twin ninja cats or making art with her super-quiet husband.
